Randfontein Estates Golf Club was remodelled extensively in 1993. Large undulating greens protected by bunkers, humps and swales make the course a good test of skill. Many water features are creatively incorporated bringing water into play on eight holes with the 7th the worst, a par three, 183 meter (201yards) from the back tee with water all the way to the green, fortunately more often played from the 160m marker.
The course is well balanced with six holes favouring a draw, four a fade and the balance relatively straight shots. The par 5's provide for a safe route for us short hitters while the long hitters can go for the green in two, but at the risk of finding either water or bunkers. The first nine is regarded as the easier of the two nines, mainly because it's more open.
A number of holes on the second nine require you to play down narrow lanes of bluegum trees. The fairways are generally cut to be narrow but the rough is kept to six inches, allowing you to escape provided you don't have tree trouble.
