It has been that way since 1995.Beachwood can also boast that it hosts 40 000 plus rounds over a 12 month period. This is on a par with the esteemed Country Club layout. Its popularity has never been higher.
Redesigned by the Gary Player Group in 1995 after the two clubs had amalgamated, it has grown in stature in recent years as more golfers discover just how challenging and interesting it is to play there Beachwood occupies a rather special strip of land in Durban North.
It was built in indigenous woodland by Percy Gilbert Stiebel around a mangrove swamp, a narrow barrier between the Indian Ocean and houses that flow along a ridge overlooking the sea. It was thought ideal at the time for a golf course. As a result, the mangrove swamp is now believed to be one of the last of its kind on the KwaZulu-Natal coast. The property, which is owned by the members, supports an amazing variety of bird life.
Visitors are welcome to play during weekdays and accompanied by a member on Saturday mornings or Sundays. Saturday afternoons are reserved for members. In 2003 the Beachwood course was rated 23rd in South Africa by a leading Golf Magazine
