Life on the green The Clarens Valley is in the Eastern Free State Highlands, situated 20 km`s from Golden Gate, 40 km’s from Bethlehem and on the Northernmost point of Lesotho. Clarens is known for its spectacular sandstone mountains and wonderful climate; it is one of the most picturesque spots in South Africa and has recently been acclaimed as the best Trout Fishing waters in South Africa. Clarens has spectacular horse riding country that very few people have discovered. Clarens is referred to by some as the 'art capital of South Africa'. Amazingly, Clarens hosts more art exhibitions every month than the whole of Johannesburg. Throughout the year and especially in autumn, the magnificent scenery of Clarens attracts many artists and photographers. Several local artists have opened their studios to the public and during weekends, this little town attracts hundreds of tourists and families looking to escape the stresses of their busy city lives.
